We are looking for a Team Leader (Paint & Prep) to join our client's growing friendly team in Milton Keynes.

About the role 

This is a hands-on role, and the successful candidate will be flexible to supervise and control within the paint facility while providing leadership and support to the team and driving targets to meet output KPI’s.

Main tasks 

  • Efficient organisation and control of staff. Regular and structured communication with teams, through daily team meetings.

  • Hands-on support to achieve full flexibility, balancing, and achievement to standards; Maintain full understanding and compliance of ISO 9001 / ISO14001/ ISO 45001 standards, plus assist in developing and maintaining effective departmental procedures.

  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout production lines, the yard & warehouse facilities;

  • Compliance with health and safety standards. Risk assessments, COSHH Assessments, Manual Handling Assessments, Safety Barometers and a trained member of the Fire Marshal Team.

  • Maintaining accurate information on the company’s manufacturing systems, including accurate stock transactions and cycle / stock checks;

  • Control attainment to build plan delivery requirements, through liaison with Production Administrator and Section Managers. Hands-on maintenance to balance the flow line, and minimise line stoppages, including absence cover. Flexibility to ensure targets are met;

  • Continuous improvement, through Kaizen. Actual times to be achieved and beaten through the implementation of lean manufacturing, including removal of all non-value added operations (7 Wastes).

  • People / culture development and training in alignment with new methods / practices being introduced. Encourage and facilitate improvements promoted from the employee teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in spraying or powder coating to understand the effects poor preparation and/or poor paint / powder application can have in terms of inconsistent film thickness, gloss levels, orange peel appearance & colour variations;

  • And/or; Experience of wet painting primer and gloss and/or wet interzinc primer using airless, air-assisted and hvlp systems, primer and gloss paint (2pack systems), preferably within a manufacturing or car industry;

  • An appreciation of the Health & Safety hazards within a paint shop, specifically Isocyanates & flammable liquids. Experienced in using & maintaining air-fed respiratory equipment;

  • Experience of operating within a lean manufacturing/continuous improvement team environment;

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Niftylift Work Place Standards;

  • Computer literate in Microsoft office and manufacturing software systems;

  • Proven ability to manage a multi-skilled team;

  • Experienced and knowledgeable in capacity planning and scheduling workload requirements;

  • Basic technical / inspection knowledge of the above disciplines;

  • Experience of operating within a lean manufacturing/continuous improvement team environment;

  • Able to develop continuous improvement in all aspects of the people, facility, processes, and products.

Salary and working hours:

Guaranteed basic starting salary £14.35 per hour x 40 hours basic plus guaranteed minimum £50 per week bonus - £32,448

08.00 - 16.30 Monday - Friday (with regular structured overtime).
