Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer – Health, Safety & Compliance

Location: Northampton

Salary: £50k - £55k

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Working Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

 

An established manufacturing business is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong focus on health, safety and continuous improvement to support a range of engineering and operational projects across its production facility.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional who is passionate about creating safer, more efficient manufacturing environments. Working closely with engineering, operations and EHS teams, you will play a key role in delivering safety-focused improvement projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving best practice throughout the manufacturing operation.

 

Manufacturing Engineer – Health, Safety & Compliance Role Overview

You will be responsible for supporting and delivering projects that enhance workplace safety, improve manufacturing processes, and ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation and industry standards.

 

Manufacturing Engineer – Health, Safety & Compliance Key responsibilities:

Leading and supporting health and safety improvement projects across manufacturing operations.

  • Conducting and reviewing risk assessments, safe systems of work and engineering controls to minimise operational risks.
  • Supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant UK health and safety legislation, including PUWER, COSHH and machinery safety requirements.
  • Managing and maintaining COSHH assessments and associated control measures.
  • Supporting monitoring programmes relating to workplace hazards, including vibration exposure and hazardous substances.
  • Overseeing the management and compliance of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems.
  • Developing and improving manufacturing processes, layouts and equipment with safety at the forefront of design.
  • Supporting the introduction of new machinery and equipment, ensuring safety requirements are considered throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Working with production teams to improve ergonomics, manual handling processes and overall operator wellbeing.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, work instructions and engineering standards.
  • Supporting audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
  • Providing practical engineering guidance and technical support to manufacturing teams.

Manufacturing Engineer – Health, Safety & Compliance Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety principles within an industrial setting.
  • Experience carrying out risk assessments and supporting safety improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and manufacturing compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical approach to delivering solutions.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively across engineering, production and support functions.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Previous involvement in health and safety projects within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of machinery safety, guarding systems, ergonomics or process safety.
  • Experience supporting external audits, inspections or regulatory compliance activities.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies and manufacturing best practices.
