We are looking for a Supplier Technical Assistant (STA) Engineer
Overview of Role:
This is a proactive, driven, variable and challenging supplier support and improvement role. Providing focussed management and support activities, primarily to poor performing suppliers, as well as supporting new suppliers / projects into the business.
To ensure externally sourced products are received to the correct quality specification, as well as being on time and on cost. Driving robust, timely containment and prevention of technical quality issues within the supply base, whilst leading and supporting robust problem resolution.
Main Tasks of Job:
Quality focussed manufacturing troubleshooting support, within allocated suppliers who’ s quality performance does not currently meet the requirements of the business.
Manage productive two-way relationships with internal stakeholders (Quality Assurance, Purchasing / Supply Chain, Engineering, Production Engineering and Production) and suppliers’ representatives to ensure all supplier manufacturing process related deliverables are met. Facilitate resolution of complex cross-functional issues.
Resolve product concerns through root cause analysis / proven problem-solving resolution processes, to obtain an immediate implementation of containment action(s) and a timely Supplier verification of the permanent preventative action, to avoid reoccurrence.
Conduct improvement projects to Quality performance improvement.
Investigate and resolve manufacturing capability issues within the supply chain to ensure business continuity.
Define and obtain supplier quality performance data to ensure a meaningful supplier performance evaluation. Determine Supplier Capability and provide technical support.
Lead and/or facilitate improvement projects to satisfy problems and improve performance of suppliers by applying appropriate LEAN / Quality improvement tools.
Manage Non-Conformance, including the review of Concessions raised to ensure that issues are addressed and resolved.
Train and coach suppliers to improve aspects of their business performance.
Lead Product validation through Process Performance Qualification (PPQ). Champion process improvements with Suppliers to resolve technical challenges and assure part conformance to drawings, specifications and requirements.
Where required support suppliers in Advanced Product Quality Planning
Where required support suppliers in the Production Part Approval Process to achieve timely PSW submissions
Ability to conduct or audit inspection of product parts to drawing specification to ensure effective containment of non-conforming parts, using a range of inspection equipment, including conventional as Faro arm / digital systems.
Where applicable, to implement and maintain process control measurement systems, including Statistical Process Control, Process Capability measures, and Acceptable Quality Limits, for statistical process trends to support the implementation of Quality Control Plans.
Identify and support Cost reduction opportunities through interaction with the Supply Chain/Strategy. Identify and provide effective Design for Manufacture capability and Cost Optimisation support between the supply base and Engineering.
Provide an Executive Summary of the development potential and suitability of key and poor performing suppliers. Definition and maintenance of documentation and factual / evidence data to support recommendations and decisions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Engineering / manufacturing knowledge of fabrication / welding & machining manufacturing processes. Knowledge of Hydraulics and Electrical engineering beneficial.
Ideally, practical manufacturing experience in Automotive or Aerospace Production environment.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a supplier facing Quality Engineering role.
Effective ability to manage a Portfolio of Suppliers with confidence.
Experience of supplier management / improvement activity.
Enthusiastic and innovative approach to Supplier improvement and support and drive for continuous improvement.
Good understanding of 8D / PPS methodology.
Demonstrable competence within automotive PPAP / PSW process.
Knowledge of best practice general engineering manufacturing processes, quality standards, inspection methods and equipment.
Understanding of tooling / jig & fixture design.
Ability to use interpret 3D CAD models and drawings.
Strong IT skills and ability to present data effectively.
Previous experience with Creo / Polyworks packages would be beneficial.
Ability to work in a diverse, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Excellent team player, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to sustain and develop team working and team-based problem solving.
Experience of working within an ISO9001 certified business.
Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
Understanding of Project Management tools and techniques.
Experience with SAP type Business Systems

Effective conflict and crisis management skills, ability to achieve desired outcomes in difficult environments.
No restrictions for European travel
